Welcome

Seeking help can feel like a big step

While searching for a therapist can feel like a daunting task, it can also be a meaningful experience. I offer an open and compassionate environment where you can examine, process and transform the challenges you face in your life.

So how do you choose a therapist? The process can start by asking a trusted friend or health professional for make a recommendation. After becoming acquainted with how someone works, you may have questions or you may be ready to set up an appointment. My years in private practice have taught me that one often chooses a therapist based on a sense that this is a person I can trust to listen to both my stories and struggles with respect and compassion.  Also, this is a person that I feel can provide strength and guidance while doing my personal work.

You may be new to therapy or maybe you have tried it before. My approach can differ in some ways from standard talk therapy. The methodologies that I draw from recognize a connection between mind and body and use a state of consciousness called "mindfulness" as a way to observe inner experiences that may be barely within cognitive awareness. This approach will take into consideration mannerisms, gestures and movements as possible pathways. These pathways can lead to deeply held beliefs, perceptions and patterns that are necessary to connect with in order to do the important work of healing. This way of working does not discount thoughts or verbal expression but rather provides more resources to draw from.

I bring 30 years of experience to the field of psychological growth, counseling and therapy. I began my clinical work in 1987, working with individuals, couples and small groups. I have taught workshops and trainings internationally, culminating in two professional trainings in New Zealand.   However, I find the greatest joy working with my clients in private practice.  It is a privilege and joy to witness the immense dignity, strength, kindness and hope that people find within themselves during times of personal suffering.

The following pages will give you more detail about my therapy style and background. I work with adults, teens and couples.  Please feel free to contact me through email or a phone call with any questions that you may have.

Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and books that are now written in a foreign tongue. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer
